The icon picture for the trailer suggests it will be violet this is then enforced by the 'red band' trailer certificate it has been given. Universal is a huge company, having them behind the movie will make audiences trust that it will be good, the first film was Liongate so it appears as if it's stepping up from the first movie. Despite this is it opened in fifth place, with $13,332,955 when it was expected $15 million or more. Being a sequel audiences can assume it will have the same comedic, teen superhero genre as before. The comedy is shown in the start where Hit Girl (chloe Moretz) beats up Kick Ass (Aaron Johnson) in the first 30 seconds.
An establishing shot of New York at sunset sets where its based up, this location conform to most superhero films such as Spiderman, Avengers and Captain America all of which take part in this city. We see Kick ass walking down the street being high fived by strangers suggests his popularity has stayed in tact or even grown becoming like a real life spiderman. Over the top of this is a new reporter doing a story on the real life superhero's which sets up hit girls scene as she stands in the school gym highlighting the secrecy of it all. They show how their superhero team is growing including stars such as Jim Carey which will work well for there target audience.
Chris D'Amico (christopher Mintz-Plasse) is introduced going over his past with kick ass and what he seeks to do. This gives the audience a clue to the plot of the film for those who are unaware of the first one. It goes onto show violet footage of fight scenes and elaborate explosions all of which are conventions of a action film. Being that the main girl in the two movies is young and not there for the male gaze it's opening up the genre to a new target audience of females too as it gives them someone to identify to who isn't just being saved all the time.
A new villain is also introduced, the police. They want to detain anyone wearing a mask pretending to be a hero. Another similarity to spiderman where the paper is against him and spreads lies to turn the people on him as well. Towards the end we see kick ass being captured without the mask on and hit girl fight without the mask on both suggesting that there identities might get blown in this film giving the audience something to follow up on.
The colouring of the trailer isn't conventional for current superhero movies as they all tend to be going in a dark direct e.g. Batman, Man of steel. This shows a more old fashioned look with bright block colours resembling that in the comic books. This is affective as the colours really stand out and catch your eye especially the yellow and red on the black background.
