Zombie Film Representations

Antagonist

The antagonists for this trailer will be the zombies. the zombies will be creating chaos and will be chasing the victims. we want the viewers to be grossed out by these zombies, so their behaviour and look should be disgusting, we want blood to be everywhere.

Victim

The victims for our trailer and going to be the survivors that are placed in this post-apocalyptic world, they have to fend for themselves, and because they are under 18 it makes it very difficult for them. because our rating is a 15, making these characters under 18 means that any under 18's viewing the trailer means that they can sympathise with these victims and can imagine themselves in this situation.

Zombie Film Zombie research

The Generic Zombie

(The Walking Dead)-The Generic Zombie is a human that has been brought back to life and  shuffles, moans and is unable to move properly. Always very aggressive, but not very fast. They are usually the victims of a virus messes up the brain, stopping everything and thus creating the zombie. These types of zombies come from no-where, anyone can catch the virus by a bite and become a zombie. The virus is normally transferred via a bite, however any transfer of bodily fluids may also give the victims the virus.

Resident Evil Zombies (films/games)-

Resident Evil Zombies were zombies created accidentally via the T-Virus and other types of virus, created by the Umbrella Corporation. These zombies vary from other zombie as not just humans can become infected, but animals and plants as well. The zombies in Resident Evil are listed bellow:

Hyper Zombies: These zombies are freshly made and they tend to sprint fast towards humans, they're stronger and a bit faster than the general zombies.

Crimson Heads: After suffering a large T-Virus infection, the zombies start to gain a red-ish skin colour, their fingers get claws and they start to release a gas. they become more aggressive but faster and can take a number of hits before dying.

Lickers: Is the final evolution of a zombie as the Crimson Head(red skin zombies) "evolves" into a faster predator. They lose sight, but instead they gain super hearing and get the ability to walk on walls like bugs. Also they look like as they've been skinned or turned inside out. They attack their prey with their sharp claws and their long tongue.
The Crazies (Film)-

The Crazies

The Crazies are a rare infected who have been infected with a ' Rhabdoviridae Prototype (fictional toxin) ' called Trixie that drives them insane and have the urge to murder after catching it. They are special because after becoming infected, they gain the homicidal and irrational drive of a Zombie, but do not lose any of their intelligence, memories, use of weapons, or coordination - they simply become entirely drived to killing anyone non Crazy. they have been known to stand still like a statue, holding their positions, lying in wait for the victims. this infection/virus also kills its host after 48 hours.

Voodoo Zombies

Voodoo Zombies are individuals created by a witch doctor through mixtures of poisons and herbs. These are the first Zombies, Other Voodoo Zombies are re-animated corpses brought back from the dead by Voodoo rituals. Salt can be used against them, causing them to realize they are dead, and return to their grave.

Zombie Film Make Up

Make up is a very important part of our trailer as we want it to look real and not amateur like we have seen in other zombie media groups attempts.

This is Abbie's make-up demonstration, showing one of the make-up options for 'Virus'. By doing this she was able to practice and experiment with colour and materials and we we're able to get a rough idea of how long each person will take to do the make up on so we can include the timing in our filming schedule. The materials Abbie used in this tutorial are face wax, concealer, face powder and gel blood.

Abbie also recorded the demonstration in 1080p HD which is the quality we will be filming in so it was a good chance to see how good the final product looks on camera as high camera quality can occasionally make it look fake. Fortunately the make-up looked really good on camera so we we're all confident to use this within our film.

Below are a few other examples of Abbie practicing with the monster make-up building up a sorta catalogue demonstrating her ability so we can go through it as a group a select certain ones.

These zombie make-up tutorials are very helpful when preparing to do make-up.
Abbie researched into different types of zombie make-up and how to apply it, which is demonstrated in the YouTube tutorials above.

these are also very helpful to see what type of zombies are out there, weather they are blood thirsty-blood everywhere zombies or timid yet freakishly weird zombies!
Abbie took what she learnt from these, combined them together takeing the best aspects of a selection of tutorials.

Zombie Film Costumes

The costumes between the survivors and the zombies are very distinguished.

For example, the survivors will be dressed in suitable clothing, padding for protection and suited up in protective gear. they will have weapons at had, weather it is a baseball bat or a gun. This type of costume can be found in films such as Zombieland and Buffy.

The zombies clothing will be very drab and dirty, they will look very worn and ripped, this being because of being attacked then infected, or just their clothing and body rotting beneath them. blood is a crucial part of the zombie costume and will be used within the gallons if possible, this blood will be smeared all over the ripped clothing and be used when the zombies are being shot down and killed.

After writing the opening to our trailer we decided that it was too long and resembled a opening to a film rather than the opening to a trailer. Because of this we will need to make some adjestments to make it more suited to the task time limit. To make this happen we might make the shots more jumpy e.g. cutting parts out of long shots making them appear to jump making it more fast pace. Another thing we discussed was how to make it more comedic, we feel this heavily comes down to the music and cinimatography.

Zombie Film look

After photographing the school we wanted to come up with a colour scheme that we want the film to look like. We wanted to achieve a dark comic book styled image for our film similar to sucker punch as we felt the way the film looked was edgy and dark. By editing these pictures we we're able to get a rough idea of how it should look which is presented below:

Above you can see the most sterotypical location for a Zombie film set in a school. Of all four images we felt the hall most most powerful due to the shiny floors making the light reflect off it giving it a eery feel like the light is scratching onto the floor. By increasing the detail it brings through the tiny flaws on the walls and floors making it appear damages and old. We will most likely be using this location because of these reasons and that it has a door directly leading to outside. This fits perfectly with a chase scene we want to include where we see the hero running into the building from outside.
